Mary Nolan harkens from Cooperstown,NY where she maintains a full time studio, however, she spends much of her time on Cape Cod painting the beautiful coast and sky. Its funny as I also have spent much of my time on the Cape(every summer since I was 2) but was born in upstate New York and have family there which is why I saw Nolan’s paintings at a gallery in Cooperstown. She stood out from the crowd because of her moody yet uplifting skyscapes and her colorful and earthy marshs and I immediately tuned into her scenes not realizing until later the Cape Cod connection.
Nolan was born in Boston, Mass and went to and graduated from several different art schools, Vesper George School of Art in Boston1972, BA in fine art and Psychology from Emmanuel College 1992 and a Masters Degree in Art Therapy from Vermont College of Norwich University .
Nolan has a penchant for capturing the beauty and wonder of our northeast shoreline. I fell in love with her work upstate and now that I have it in the gallery am falling in love all over again. The richness of the browns and oranges in this marshy coast brings a smile to my face and many memories of lazy days spent walking the coast. Great artwork inspires and Nolan does not disappoint.
